Chapter 29

Subaru found himself back in school before he knew it and everyone noticed he had a daydreamy look about him.  However, that just made an old problem worse.
“What’s got Sumeragi’s mind in a daze Monou?” 
Fuuma looked up from his transfiguration essay at his seeker. “He got married over Christmas break, surely you’ve noticed? It’s almost Valentine’s Day.”
“And what of it?”
“It means he’s off the market sleaze ball!”
“Quiet Kinomoto, I wasn’t speaking to you.”
“That’s enough Zeke go study quidditch moves or something, I’m trying to get this essay finished before class.”
“I would, but unfortunately sixth years don’t get nearly as many free periods, I have to go to class.” He took off out of the common room with Sakura following.
“Good riddance to bad rubbish is what I say; and Fuuma tapping your wand against the parchment isn’t going to write the essay for you. See you guys at dinner!”
Subaru paid no heed to Zeke’s exit but he did wave to Sakura. After all Zeke wouldn’t make another pass at him, right? Besides… Subaru looked at his hands. On his left hand ring finger was a single gold band and on his right ring finger was his Hufflepuff class ring (that he had just gotten recently) and a Slytherin class ring from the graduating class of  two years ago on his middle finger (which belonged to Seishirou of course).
“You keep it.”
“But…”
“No buts, keep it, the emerald suits your eyes nicely.”
“I already have enough from you.”
“All of those are gifts from me, consider this a way to have a part of me with you until you graduate.”
“Promise to take it back when I do and accept mine when I get it in my seventh year? So you have something of mine?”
No words were spoken, just a tender kiss to the younger boy’s lips. “Have I broken a promise to you yet?”
“AURGH!”
Subaru was pulled out of his memory by a frustrated yell, the crumbling of parchment and the unmistakable sound of a size thirteen shoe coming in contact with the poor metal trashcan; repeatedly.
Deciding it was best to leave Fuuma alone (it was best at times like this) Subaru took out a spare piece of parchment and started to write a letter. After he finished the letter he read it over to make sure it sounded okay before placing it and his class ring in a small box. He walked up to the owlery and located his owl and called him down.
He stroked the snowy owl’s head gently. “Take this to Sei-kun for me?”
An affectionate nip on his finger and he watched his owl take off. Reaching into his pocket he pulled out a golden pocket watch and saw it was time for his next class.

Valentine’s Day had arrived and Kamui and Fuuma were waiting for Subaru so they could go to Hogsmeade. Hokuto was chatting with Tomoyo; Doumeki and Watanuki were holding hands much like Syaoran and Sakura were; and Syaoron wasn’t going.
“Subaru is awfully late, when did you see him last Fuuma?”
“He got up this morning later than usual but he said he’d be in Hogsmeade.”
“Subaru late? I don’t like the sound of that…”
“Oh Kamui stop worrying, I’m sure he’s okay.” Even though Fuuma told Kamui this, he himself didn’t believe it. He had seen Zeke looking over love potion recipes in the common room and this added onto Subaru’s mysterious behavior (he had been flat out rambling this morning about stuff Subaru normally wouldn’t talk about out loud) this morning, leading Fuuma to worry about his brother-in law.
He was so caught up in his thoughts that he didn’t even notice they were in Hogsmeade until he felt a well-manicured finger poke his back. 
“Oi! Kamui your boyfriend’s in la-la land, did you confound him or something?”
“Technically that’s normal for him Hokuto, he’s always in la-la land, it’s in his nature.”
“HI SEICHAN!” The girl pushed through Fuuma and Kamui and ran to hug the older male. 
She got a friendly hug in return. “As thrilled as I am to see my sister, wherever is that darling twin of yours? I see you brought the irritable one and my dense air head of a brother.”
“What? He’s not with you? He left saying he was going to Hogsmeade ahead of us.”
“That mean’s Subaru’s missing...”
If Hokuto hadn’t been so close to Seishirou she would’ve never seen his wand be drawn until the silver patronus emerged from the tip of his wand.
“I’m going to find him and if anything is wrong with him and the person that did it is foolish enough to still be around him, I almost pity them.”
“Sei-chan…” She made a move to follow him but she felt a hand on her shoulder.
“It’s better if he’s alone right now, you know what he’s capable of, you’ve seen it and I know you see it in me too. It’s what we were raised to be. If Subaru’s not hurt he won’t overreact.”

“You truly are lovely Sumeragi, the perfect specimen and I’m glad I made you mine.”
“Except he’s not yours, he’s mine, or did you forget that already? The band on his left hand should be proof enough and that class ring he’s wearing on his right hand is a Slytherin class ring; mine to be specific.”
Gray eyes looked up and were met with narrowed amber.
“I think you better return what belongs to me.” The hardened amber eyes rested on glazed over emerald ones and for a brief moment softened.
